花小金井キリスト教会は、宗教法人日本バプテスト連盟が1964年に花小金井の地に開拓伝道を開始することを決め、アメリカ南部バプテスト連盟のアスキュー宣教師を初代牧師に迎えて、1966年に家庭集会が始まったことに端を発します。

　バプテスト教会は、プロテスタント教会の一派です。歴史学的には17世紀にイングランド国教会から分離した人々までさかのぼることができます。神だけを絶対と信じ、すべての人間はの神の前に平等であることを大切に考えますので、教会に集う人の間に上下関係はなく、牧師も一人の信徒の立場でその働きをします。教会に集う一人ひとりが、主体的に聖書を読み、かつ独善的な理解にならないように、互いに対話することを大切にします。そのために、大人から子どもまでの「教会学校」があり、聖書をともに学ぶ時間を持っています。

＜日本バプテスト連盟 花小金井キリスト教会 信仰告白＞

花小金井キリスト教会は、アメリカ南部バプテスト連盟から派遣されたアスキュー宣教師をはじめとする多くの祈りと献身によって、この地に建てられ、日本バプテスト連盟に加盟する教会として歩んできました。改めて、神によるこれまでの導きに感謝すると共に、私たちがこれから歩んでいくための信仰を、ここに告白します。

私たちは、天地のすべてをつくられた唯一の神を信じます。
私たちは、イエスが、神の御子であり、救い主であると信じます。
私たちは、聖霊なる神を信じます。

イエス・キリストは私たちの罪を負い、十字架にかけられて死に、墓に葬られました。しかし、三日目に復活され、今も生きて私たちと共に歩んでくださっています。私たちは、このことによって、死に定められた「からだ」が、十字架と共に滅び、イエス・キリストの復活と共に新たにされたことを信じます。

神が、御子をこの世に遣わされたのは、この世を裁くためではなく、すべての人が救われるためです。ですから、私たちは、あらゆる違いを乗り越え、敵も味方もなくなり、お互いの出会いと交わりを喜び、隣人として共に神の愛に応えて生きられるようになることを信じます。

そして、抑圧と不公平、差別と貧困、また命の危機に呻（うめ）いている、神がつくられたこの世界の只中に、今も、聖霊の助けがあることを信じます。

私たちは、この神の愛と恵みに応え、新たに生きる証として、一人ひとりが信仰を告白し、バプテスマを受けます。そして、主の日の礼拝をささげ、主の晩餐により自らを吟味し、互いの賜物を尊重し、平和を創り出す教会を目指します。

そして、イエス・キリストが再び来られるその日まで、主にある平和と人々の和解を願い、すべての「いのち」の尊厳が守られるように祈り、「神の国」への希望と確信を持ち、イエス・キリストに従っていきます。

わたしたちは、

神の恵みによって、イエス・キリストを主と信じ、

バプテスマを受けて、主の教会に加わったので、

聖霊の導きによって、この約束をいたします。

わたしたちは、

教会は人によって成ったものではなく、神によって成ったものと信じます。

聖書の御言葉に立ち、主の日の礼拝をささげ、

バプテスマと主の晩餐との二つの礼典を行い、

教会の諸集会や交わり、教会の定めた秩序を大切にします。

わたしたちは、

神の愛に応えていく者として、主を賛美し、教会をささえ、

## History and Faith of Hanakoganei Christian Church

Hanakoganei Christian Church traces its origins back to 1966, when home meetings began following a 1964 decision by the Japan Baptist Convention (JBC) to launch a pioneer mission in the Hanakoganei area. Rev. Donald L. Askew, a missionary sent by the Southern Baptist Convention (USA), was welcomed as the church’s founding pastor.

**History**

* **May 25, 1969:** Formal organization of the church (transitioned from Hanakoganei Mission to Hanakoganei Christian Church).
* **1972:** Resignation of Pastor Askew; Installation of Rev. Takao Kawai (served until 1986).
* **1987:** Installation of Rev. Toshiyuki Momohara (served until 1993).
* **1994:** Installation of Rev. Kazukiyo Fujisawa (served until 2006).
* **2009:** Installation of Rev. Hisashi Hiroshima (served until 2015).
* **2011:** Dedication of the new church building.
* **2015:** Installation of Rev. Shuichi Fujii (serving to the present).

**About Baptists**
The Baptist Church is a branch of the Protestant tradition. Historically, our roots go back to those who separated from the Church of England in the 17th century. We believe that God alone is absolute and cherish the belief that all people are equal before God. Therefore, there is no hierarchy among those who gather at the church; the pastor also performs their ministry as one of the congregants. Each person gathering at the church is encouraged to read the Bible proactively, and we value dialogue with one another to ensure our understanding does not become self-righteous. To this end, we have a “Church School” for everyone from children to adults, where we spend time studying the Bible together.

Furthermore, the most important gathering of the church is Sunday Worship. Since our Savior Jesus was resurrected on a Sunday, we worship Christ (the Savior, the Messiah) on this day. In our worship, we celebrate the risen Christ who is alive today and offer praise to God. Through this, we are granted peace and the new strength necessary for living. Life during the week, beginning with worship, is blessed by God.

Worship includes hymns, prayer, scripture reading, offerings, and a message (sermon), with the center being the message based on the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God. When heard as God’s word speaking to us here and now, the Bible becomes close to us. It provides appropriate guidance and serves as a good signpost for the various problems of reality.

### Our Confession of Faith

**<Confession of Faith of Hanakoganei Christian Church, Japan Baptist Convention>**

Hanakoganei Christian Church was established in this land through the prayers and dedication of many, including Missionary Askew sent by the Southern Baptist Convention, and has walked as a member church of the Japan Baptist Convention. Once again, we give thanks for God’s guidance thus far, and we here confess our faith as we continue our journey ahead.

We believe in the one and only God, the Creator of heaven and earth.
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ bore our sins, was crucified and died, and was buried in a tomb. However, He rose again on the third day and is now living and walking with us. We believe that through this, our “bodies” destined for death perished with the Cross and have been made new with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that all people might be saved. Therefore, we believe that we will be able to overcome all differences—where there is no longer “enemy or ally”—and rejoice in our encounters and fellowship, living together as neighbors in response to God’s love.

And we believe that the help of the Holy Spirit is present even now in the midst of this world created by God, which groans under oppression, injustice, discrimination, poverty, and the crisis of life itself.

In response to this love and grace of God, and as a testimony to our new life, each of us confesses our faith and receives baptism. Furthermore, we offer worship on the Lord’s Day, examine ourselves through the Lord’s Supper, respect each other’s spiritual gifts, and aim to be a church that creates peace.

Until the day Jesus Christ comes again, we pray for peace in the Lord and reconciliation among people, pray that the dignity of all “life” be protected, and follow Jesus Christ with hope and conviction in the “Kingdom of God.”

### Our Church Covenant (2024 Edition)

*This is the “Church Covenant” created with the hope that the members of Hanakoganei Christian Church remain faithful to God and to one another.*

Having been led by the grace of God to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord, and having been baptized into the fellowship of His church, we make this covenant by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the church is established not by human power, but by God. We stand upon the Word of God in the Bible, offer worship on the Lord’s Day, observe the two ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and cherish the various meetings, fellowship, and the established order of the church.

As those who respond to God’s love, we praise the Lord, support the church, and offer our heartfelt prayers and tithes so that God’s will may be done.

The Lord Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” As those who live in the peace of Christ, we aim to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord, walk together, share in each other’s joys, pains, and sorrows, pray for one another, and create peace.
